I have had a longstanding interest in colour, design and architecture along with a particular passion for painting. In line with my professional life as a psychoanalyst, my work usually incorporates many layers. It is free form and intuitive, allowing something not preconceived to emerge and be developed, erased, altered and take shape until ultimately an integrated image or composition is reached. My interest in the emotionally more expressive group of abstract expressionists of Europe and the USA was ignited by broad freer gestures, offering bold colours and shapes and a resistance to portraying an identifiable image. This way of working leaves the viewer to make of the work what they will. I continue to respond to the immediacy and impact of these works whether strong in approach or offering a quieter reflective space. My practice explores working on paper as well as canvas with oil, gouache, ink and collage. Painting for me is always both a deeply satisfying endeavour as well as an ongoing challenge.
